Now pull off the leaves growing on the bottom of the twigs. You can pull off the ones growing on the tops, too. This will encourage the tree to send out side shoots.

It grew very strongly this season. I suspect the difference is due to the amount of light. I had plenty of shade in Houston whereas my new garden is in the full sun.
