Who do I have to pay to turn the ads off?!

When you create an account you only see one ad at the top of the page, and one at the very bottom. If you just visit the site, you will see an ad every post.

This is by design - to get people to create member accounts so that they can interact with / contribute to the community. There is nothing forcing you to create an account, and you are not forced to post anything even if you do. However if you just pull down content from the site that others have put there... yeah, you will see a ton of ads.

Ads in chrome for android aren't even working anymore. You're missing out on money Greg! 🙃
I have no problem donating every year and seeing ads at the top and bottom of a page.
They're needed to keep the forum rolling, I'm not at all bothered by them.
Automatic login really helps.

Seriously, this site is almost unusable with all the ads.
Seriously, you never contribute anything to the side besides spewing your venom re. a site that is oluntarily maintained by someone, yet you drain it for knowledge and then complain?

Yees.

@Bonsai Nut thank you for the upkeep and time and money you invest in this amazing online resource.

I've heard that sometimes when a beaver chops down a tree, it can actually fall over on them.

I also very much appreciate this work you do, @Bonsai Nut. I don't need to have daily conversations with you to understand what an effort you must put in for the passion for the art. Hats off to you, Sir!

I just wanted to add... I feel where you are coming from. I go to some sites on the Internet where I am overwhelmed with ads. The worst are some of the newspaper sites, who pay to place links to their stories on Google, and then spam you with ads before you find out that all the linked content is behind a paywall.

Because I live in Charlotte, if I want to see a single story on the Charlotte Observer site, I will get assaulted by 74 ads - including a pop-up video ad and a pop-up footer - before I see the notice that all of their linked content is behind a paywall (I just went to the site and counted). It makes this site mild by comparison - plus ALL of our content is free.

If I were king of the world, I would not allow you to place ads for content that is behind a paywall (unless it is specifically labelled as "pay to view")

I am OK with the ads. Web sites all have a cost for operation that includes hosting and moderation. The ads provide the revenue needed to keep the cost of joining the site low or free in this case. In some cases, they are useful or amusing. If not, I just ignore them.

That's funny, when I first started browsing this site my first thought was: how is this site free?! The wealth of knowledge, experience, and helpful interaction is more than worth the minimal presence of ads for a registered user. My thanks to all those that keep this thing running!
