When you leave trees in original nursery containers

I do most of my tree shopping online, my trees come almost bare rooted with some clay packed into the roots to retain moisture along the journey.

If I buy a tree out of repotting season I’ll use my own discretion what to do but mostly I rinse the clay away and repot properly without cutting or disturbing the roots too much. If the tree seems weak, I just pot it as is and wait until it has some vigour.

Many of the trees I buy come from 2 or 3 hardiness zones cooler so they are bound to push some growth when they arrive here anyway because it will be warmer, therefore I can throw caution to the wind and inspect roots like a maniac
