What is your current bonsai activity plan?

I want to get one of my crape myrtles repotted into a large training pot, before it leaf's out. It is waking up early, last year it was June before it showed signs of life. But with Easter, I'm not sure I'll have time and the lows Monday are right at freezing.

Benches are on my list. Right now I have some heavy pallets made of 2x8 and 4x4 setting on some blocks.

So I’ve yet to seal the wood on my shade frame. I was maybe hoping to finish that up today, but it’s supposed to be windy later, and I don’t want dust getting into the sealer

I was looking at another pallet I have. It would make a nice little 3’ bench. But it wouldn’t be shaded until later in the afternoon. And I’m not really sure where would be a good spot for it, and not sure if the wife wants me having more trees, lol

Would like to get to NAPA and buy some 8822

I need to find a soil that holds water for our hot summers, but not too much over winter. Lots of reading to do

You realize you did that on Fri, right? Now what are you going to do “this weekend”? Really screwed the pooch on this one, dude ;)
Spent the whole Saturday just weeding my pots now that I have them on the easy to reach height.

Debating on whether or not to repot the prunus virginiana I got yesterday. It's horribly root bound, but in full leaf already; very early, even the big Siberian elms around here are barely getting going.
Also hunting for tea bags for the fert I got. Every grocery store in town sells loose leaf tea of some sort, but NOT tea bags or even tea bulbs. And I thought God was a practical joker for making hay fever! He got nothin' on corporate America.

Have to remember to either bring my 2 maples inside tonight, tomorrow night and Wednesday night because of possible frost since they all have leaves. What is wrong with this weather in Chicago?

Same here for most of mine. Freezes last night and tonight. Most of my trees and plants are spending two days in doors. I keep bemoaning the slow growth on my pepper starts for the garden, but I really shouldn't. Even when I can keep them outside in the real sunlight it's in the 40s F at night, and they won't take off until it stays at least 50s every night. The other option is inside where they don't get as much light, and just grow slow and leggy.
Make for a good indicator, though. When the peppers go nuts, it's time to plant EVERYTHING.

Will this be my future in Pennsylvania? :(

yes. But it's not all that bad. Your BC will be fine with mulch and a windbreak in the winter. You will also be able to grow a wider variety of Japanese Maples without having to coddle them in the summer.

FWIW, here in N.Va. were slated to get down to 35 and 37 Thurs. and Fri. nights. That's frost territory, particularly in the early morning. The average last frost date here was a week ago. This is a late one...Might have to bring everything in one last time.

Likely, though I've never lived in Pennsylvania.
Here in Colorado, at least in my neck of the woods, fall and spring are notoriously unpredictable, with generally mild winters and hot, dry summers. Mother's Day is generally thought of as the safe planting date.

My understanding of New England weather is that the seasons are generally more predictable, and better defined.

Current plan is for a ton of repots on jack pine and scots pine seedlings, putting together some JM clumps and forests to sell eventually, and a few hours to repot the big Dawn Redwood, apply root grafts and reduce the canopy. Finished with probably 75% of repots and can see the light, phew.

oh and babying this collected American elm from yesterday. 3EEE4F77-4795-4F0B-92BA-D2B6C125AB67.jpegD437614C-2994-4800-A883-EE2F9A55AA20.jpegB1BCABF3-1D3C-429C-9913-6E9844DA5543.jpeg

All trees moved to a small area to start practicing bonsai in tight spaces.
All collected BC’s moved out to full sun except for one that hasn’t budded.

Those BCs are beasts! Going to be some cool trees in no time! Also, is that a washing machine tub you have repurposed as a container??? Looks like it will be good for air pruning the roots!

Lol, I'm way south of Chicago, half an hour or so from St.Louis, but the weather is still stupid. It was in the 80's this weekend, 37 this morning and tomorrow.
It was 83 Saturday, 70 something yesterday with rain, and tonight 29 to 33 with highs in the 50’s tomorrow and Wednesday.
