Well, all three pieces are budding up. Would be interested to see if they rooted in spring...Experimenting with Fortune's spindle.
Cut some off the yrees on the side of the road at about my face hight. Going to put them in the unheated basement in a plastic bag.
If anything some of them can stand being killed - invasive species.

We have some that nest on a shelf on our carport every year multiple times think it's the offspring that also use the nest. For the last 18 years. It's neat seeing them grow and fly off. They get so friendly we can get within inches of them without them getting startled.Well, well. Guess things were moving along faster than I thought. I’ve seen two, maybe three little heads looking around from under the mother’s skirt. They got a lot bigger than I expected this early. They may be able to fly in a week or two. Cold front hits here tomorrow night, but lows are only expected to get down to maybe 28-30F. Such is central Florida. May see snow flurries but nothing will stick.

That’s awesome. They won’t be able to reuse this nest because I will trim off that frond this year, but if they feel safe in this spot they can pick a higher frond. Finally got a good shot of one of the baby’s foliage. Nice camouflage. We have some that nest on a shelf on our carport every year multiple times think it's the offspring that also use the nest. Extra Large-grained!

Hey, I know this is somewhat of an older post, but anything you can share on pinus pungens? Not much out there about them.Busy day!
I cut back all the happy new growth on the Japanese Larch I bought 2 weeks ago at the Potomac Bonsai Festival at the Arboretum. It's loving the pumice & coc coir.
Partially defoliated 2 yamadori dogwoods in an effort to get smaller internodes and leaves. These were both collected last year.
Partially defoliated the yamadori red maple that I collected last March.
Sprinkled a bit of NPK in every pot, and rationed out all the latest fert baskets I bought after packing them with BioGold.
Cut back the new shoots on my native persimmon.
Did a Walter Pall hedge shear on the American hornbeams that I'm fusing the trunks.
And cut the candles on the 2 Table Mountain pines (Pinus pungens) which no one seems to know much about. Time will tell if this was the right call, but the growth this spring has been vigorous.
These were collected high in the mountains near Sperryville, Virginia, last March.
