What did you do today? Show us Pic Required

After going out and being social I sifted a bucket of old bonsai soil.

Then I wired my satsuki hybrid and yelled "oh fuck!" for the second time today when I snapped a branch. Honestly I could probably remove that branch. For now it will look awkward. It was the first branch on the right.

Busy weekend behind me. Drove to lmost poland to judge the National Bonsai Show in Germany & supervise & judge the new talent contest. on Sunday my trial was over and I was invited to be a formal part of the 8 person german judging panel, which I accepted. Of, and I had a tree-with-faults in the show.

I did a micro air layer today on one of my seed grown JM
how thick you recon it needs to be to attempt air layer? I bought recently shishigashira but it's grafted on some other japanese maple rootstock... so I either do air layer or cuttings... but they are still rather thin...

I have had success with layers thinner than a pencil. The one thing about shishi is it is a slow grower and fairly slow to root. Even though yours is grafted, the regular JM root stock does help the top put on some size a little faster.

Today, I can confidently say, that some of the trees I had tagged as "dead" 9 months ago, are back to life.
Unfortunately 10 more trees are completly dead. I guess I'll never know what was the desease that affected them.
They don´t look good but I'll try to improve the survivors in the next months....

Chamaecyparis thyoides

Love your vision, courtyard and collection.
Sorry for your losses, I doubt it was from lack of attention.
Looking forward to more progress photos.

Thank you. My thought was to let it go wild this year... maybe even put it in the ground as I don't care much about rootstock anyway... than have the shishi current grafts get some size... and attempt the airlayer next spring. Right now they are still green-ish... way to early for any layering work...

Found this guy under an anderson flat while moving this years trees away from the front of the house before Brandie murders me in my sleep. Relocated the little brown snake to the area I moved my trees to. Just glad it isn't another copperhead...generally find at least 5 each year minimum on the property, and occasionally a timber rattlesnake.

All we get are slugs! Not sure which I’d prefer…

Today so far, I’ve just fiddled around the garden and thought about a future angle for this, my first “practice client” tree from my mentor’s collection.

nice tree... isn't first section going too straight up with new angle... probably little tilt to the right? ... to the left not crazy either...

Think bunjin—what else if you have only 1 red pine?—so the image isn’t very defined here. Not to mention, the first section points to the left, away from the crown; only after the first bend is it straight, and only for a short jaunt.
