Repotted these two seedlings today. Not much clue what I’m doing so just hope I haven’t doomed them. The horse chestnut has far less and much shorter roots than I thought it would (but looks to be budding nicely) and I’ll admit I removed a few roots to get them even height which may not have been wise. The oak was very rootbound so I untangled as best I could but didn’t remove anything as the buds seem tiny so no idea if its even alive? Fingers crossed! IMG_1470.jpeg

Only started the hobby last year and have nothing in the developmemt stage, to be honest I’ve left everything alone to juat grow for most of past year but am quite enamoured by these two tiny trees!

Got this juniper boxed up. Will let it rest all season. Ill start fertilization In a few weeks.

It still had burlap on the root ball which was a bit of a nightmare but may ultimately be good for the tree as it appears to have forced the tree to grow roots.above that location pretty radially. I basically sawed off the burlapped section.

This weekend has been a lot of bonsai!
Started the morning at my friends' house helping with the repot of this ginkgo grove for the Milwaukee Bonsai Foundation. I was even brought a tray of coffee to help me work.

Then I went to my Wisco Bonsai to hang with my Bonsai gang.

I ended up buying some wire and pots.

I removed a lot from my exposed root Japanese black pine. The far right branch isn't going to be in the final design, but I need to leave some needles on it.

I bought a shore pine for quite cheap at the club sale today, because I noticed it had a bit of scale. It’s not too bad, but the seller said he had his trees crowded together, so I think some better sun, space on the bench, and treatment will have it popping with vigor.

Today, I’m removing the scale with a brush (tedious!) then spraying with soapy neem.

So your BCs made it thru the winter outside?
The two in this thread are new this year. The other one I own was left outside all winter and did survive (as it should) right next to the larch, pines, and Dawn Redwood. Take that, captain garage trees. 🤣 Lol I do keep some sissy trees/Shohin in the garage, and ones leafing out. Winter wasn't too bad this year.

dude... you must be living in the most crazy area of US in terms of weather... I'm watching your updates and can't stop laughing (... or crying alternatively) ;)
We'd never had flooding like this till 2021, we had the record flood since like 1906, then this year we had 2 floods nearly as bad. Getting old fast, we live on a ridge with 10-150 foot cliffs on both sides, but getting around has been a hassle, adds over an hour to the already hour drive to work, or the hour and 20 minute drive to 2 bonsai workshops with Jennifer Price today and Friday. Speaking of which, I wired up this Ponderosa pine today.

Figured out where I'm going with this Colorado spruce, I'll wire it up Tuesday most likely.

See how this Birch forms part of the outline, at the edge of a Beech forest/ grove. Its branches that tried growing into the forest have died off, probably due to limited light..
But there seems to be an understanding between the two species. Beech: 'Ill let you remain at the edge, so long as you dont grow into me'.
Birch: 'Sure'.20250407_120628.jpg20250407_120702.jpg20250407_120621.jpg20250407_120544.jpg

I started another Clump/Multi trunk project, this time with 3 interesting Beeches. They're wired very tightly at the base. Loads of branches

great to see I'm not the only one that is still waiting for buds to pop... I know they normally open up late...
