Repotted a sapling from my ebb and flow system to a regular pot

View attachment 588405

(I know, it shouldn't have gotten that bad - but it's the only gutter I haven't put screens on, and I broke my leg last fall and didn't get to it!)

No idea what it is, but if it can survive a Maine winter in a frozen gutter, it deserves a chance!

And yes, I used giant shears because I was too lazy to get my tools.

“Ebb and flow system”
🤔

🤣

Repotted a Sharps Pigmy maple. Removed about 75% of the root ball and the rest of the nursery soil from the first potting and went from an oversized Tokaname grow pot to a regular bonsai pot of a more appropriate size.

I was in St. Louis for our spring break trip and swung by a local nursery which was recommended to me for bonsai material. Ended up with this Mikawa Yatsabusa as my souvenir. Is it too late to repot into something different, specifically to get it into a better substrate? I’m thinking it’s getting a tad late for root pruning, given the leaves. Thoughts?

Not too late, but definitely be a bit extra careful!

Yesterday my bonsai work consisted of riding around the city looking at trees in the landscape and doing a bit of geography reading!

I always love when trees are on the house

Starting the repot of my largest tree. It was repotted two years ago but it was very pot bound. I am tackling the inner rootball now which has a lot of broken down organic material in it causing sporadic leaf loss last July. Already cleaned up some bad scars and dieback. Hoping to get this one healthy again.
My back already hurts just from getting it into my basement.
