What’s your latest Bonsai related purchase?

I did something...I swore off years ago. For their finicky cultivar reputation. I dislike stacking the deck against me.

Yet... a neagari chojubai, caught me at a weak moment. A give it away price on auction. (I can justify anything. It's my super power. ) I know some love them...some hate them. One I know has a love/hate relationship with theirs. Yet here I am. 🫣 That said...my eyes are wide open. I expect a finicky cultivar. So no surprises.

the first of many ceramics from Japan: a shohin-size pot by Ino Shukuho, in a rare mokko shape with his signature oribe glaze. I picked this up from Kujo-en in Kyoto. I was initially going to go for one of their Koyos but was struck by the difference between Shukuho and Koyo’s glaze and build quality.

pots in the nursery’s collection ranged from cheap production Tokoname to 200+ year old Qing pots. I might get into making pots once I’m more settled down. inspecting and handling a $3000 Kowatari pot up close was inspirational and should be on every serious bonsai potters to-do list

I have two heated sweatshirts. I just used one to check my trees in 20°F weather tonight. I got the new smaller battery but I like having the 3 aH m12 for when the house is chilly. Keeps it at the lowest setting most of the day

Bought a Jabily Tree from Etsy. Looks very cool. Hear they make good bonsai. It is coming in bare root. The grower said they need well draining soil and not to put it in a big pot, which I was not going to do.

He has another one which is nicer than mine but he's not selling it...Not yet anyway ..lol .
I don’t blame him! Good on you, would love to see updates as you work on yours. Congrats on the great tree!

Here is a Red Chojubai I got about a month ago. I plan on doing a few air-layers, that will be replanted amongst the main trunk here to jumpstart a large clump style. Id like to develop a large specimen that can be displayed as the main tree of a display at a show in the future.....chojubai so often are an afterthought, a tree amongst a shohin display, or an accent to another medium sized tree.....they deserve more!fullsizeoutput_c44.jpeg
