Watering wand

I prefer this model on Amazon over my Masakuni. And the on/off built in valve works excellent. Unfortunately the laws in Californistan will not let them ship it here any longer.

I tried to find an adapter last year (and did a brief search today) with no luck (3/4 ips to 3/4 ght).

My wand was shipped with this plastic shutoff that adapted to the garden hose. Unfortunately there was no identification in the shutoff to determine the make/model.

I tried multiple brass fittings, but like you, I found none worked.

I ended up connecting the plastic shutoff to a brass shutoff to a squeeze handle (which I prefer to turning the shutoff on/off). This works well for me, as I can align the squeeze shutoff with the nozzle head (the plastic shutoff does not have a ‘slip end’ to allow this alignment).

But, I did get this Dramm plastic shutoff, and it fits the Masakuni and the garden hose - just to see if this would work, now it’s an option if I change my setup later .

I do see a visual difference in the thread shape and pitch between the plastic and metal shutoffs. While they both must meet GHT standards, the plastic must be at one ‘end’ of the standard that allows its use with IPS fittings…

Thanks.
Just ordered this one from amazon. Should work fine for my needs… Will report back.
I will second this. It’s great, but a bit on the weak side. As long as you don’t drag it and snag the handle on something in the wrong direction, you should be fine lol. Seriously though, I did just that and the handle sheared clean off VERY easily. This was after I had had it for a good amount of time though, and I used it for a while after as well. Could have been a one off, just treat t like a lady. I’m going to order another.

I ran across Mr. Valvanis' water wand "discovery" and decided to try the Melnor Ultra - Fine 15" he liked so much. it. It is great. By far the best I have used and it doesn't require a great deal of water pressure. Here is the Melnor webpage with their Ultra - Fine 15" wand. And Mr. Valvanis blog and discussion of water wands. I ordered mine from Home Depot's website.

The price is right! If my Masakuni ever breaks, I will definitely try it (although I admit I like the Masakuni’s small head and steeper angle, it makes watering smaller tree (and watering just the soil) really easy).

It does seem like the Melnor has much smaller holes than the Dramm I tried. This was what I noticed on the Masakuni - not necessarily a ‘million’ holes, but the holes it had were all tiny.

And, yeah, 1/4 the price of a Masakuni is significant!!

Home Depot is closer, so I don’t frequent Lowe’s much, but I should make a trip this weekend! Thanks for the heads up!

My melnor is already leaking a bit, so I don't know that it'll be long for this world. (How old do I sound?!) It takes more water flow to break the water effectively, but its not bad, and its pretty soft. I probably won't buy another one when this one breaks though.

is there a euro garden hose size that actually threads down to the o ring on these masakuni wands? regular 3/4" is close. still leaks with tape. what size does japan use. is it british garden hose size?

I ran across this on the dramm website https://www.dramm.com/html/main.isx?sub=604 , euro metric hose adapters and valves. I don't know if it is the correct thread or where to purchase them but I would almost bet, that's what you need. But again i am totally guessing, just thought I would mention it.

i ended up cutting the end off of the wand and soldered a half inch copper pipe fitting in.
