So you bought it, chopped it, and then did nothing else. Still got it?
Wired it, repotted it and shaped it doesn't count? Troll.

I can add one of my own trees. Can't hurt to post it up, really. I am in no competition with Smoke- he obviously out classes me in every way. However, this is one of my better efforts that is closer to the end goal than some of my other plants/trees.
Here's the details: Natal Plum, 3 years from the 5 gallon nursery container. When I found it, it was frost damaged and had leggy branches cascading out of the pot, and moving along the ground. Year 1 I wired the lower branches into position with some pruning. Year 2 I repotted into a 10" terracotta bulb pan with pie slices taken out of the rootball and backfilled with 1:1 lava and bark- with significant pruning once it showed active growth. Year 3 (this year), it's been repotted into a shallow plastic dish, with the roots partially rinsed clean and placed into a 2:2:1 mix of lava, growstone, and bark. Once it gets hot and the tree takes off, I will begin pruning again for shape and ramification.
I've since learned that Natal Plums can be repotted either in early fall or late spring in 9b, and that pruning back to the last leaf on any branch will reliably produce two shoots from that node during the growing season. They're slow to lignify, and wire needs to be left on for more than a year to set. The thorns hurt.

What if there was a bonsai forum that anyone could join, but to post you had to post a picture of your best tree, or as many as you have with each post?
So when you go telling the next guy what he has done wrong or how they should be doing it, at least the one getting pounded on has a nice portfolio of all the posters trees so he can evaluate whether they are someone to listen to, or just someone to put on ignore, which is pretty much how I do it now.
The old IBC used to have a very strict photo policy. The new IBC does not have this anymore.
Wouldn't it be refreshing if someone posted something that they think you could do to improve your tree and they had to not only provide a picture of their own work, so you could evaluate their knowledge level, but also had to provide pictures of the work they are asking you to do, how it worked on their trees. I mean if you want someone else to do the work, at least show me you know what the hell your talking about.
I don't feel I have anything on my bench to share with that group. But I like to read along...or occasionally make a comment. But...I don't feel it's meant for younger bonsai enthusiasts going into 4 years of bonsai to share their trees. Not that I have stick in the pot trees...just none that I feel are worthy of the caliber one would expect there. Though...some just don't get it and share things that I scratch my head on. Maybe I just look at the group differently. The problem tho is a deep pocket can substitute for knowledge, and often does.
There's a FB page that does that trys to be a little different. It's called Bonsai Snobs... instead of pandering to a poster or outright trashing them you have to actually logically argue your opinion either artistically or from traditional standards. It doesn't always work, and some times gets harsh but there are very few sticks in pots posted...
In my case, I basically started over after doing it for decades and now I have several other endeavours stealing my time so I don't have stellar show quality trees. But I try and back up what I say...
I see nothing that doesn't look like a ficus growing wild? Didn't you have an awful time with pests
Wait a minute! In your opinion those things don't count when I do them but they count when you do them lol?!
Look, I don't know what your problem is, but I've got nothing to prove to you. You're just some hurt internet troll who only joins flame wars. If you've got a problem with me take it up in PM and stop making your little issues public.
Yes because you buy already styled trees. This was a piece of raw stock that was worked. You have this ego about you that you're some incredible artist because you have deep pockets.
Anywho, I'm putting you both on ignore and removing myself from this thread, though I know Joe won't allow anyone else to have the last word.
LOL...what is it they say about a leopard and his spots?@Smoke and @Smoke's Momma
I distinctly remember you making some sort of resolution to not stir the pot any more?
Do we need to tell your momma??
You must be bored again??
Actually I just asked a yes or no question. It's the human condition that causes the conflict. People just can't help themselves. Look at recent events with FBI Comey, both sides wanted him fired, the Dems as recently as last week due to his screwing up Hillarys election. Now he's gone and the same people that wanted him gone are pissed at Trump for doing it. WTF! Now there are people here mostly those I have on ignore that only argue, schlock up threads never post trees and never a positive contribution.@Smoke and @Smoke's Momma
