Things we love about bonsai people

I love the little details that bring bonsai people joy. Never before would I pay so much attention to bark, lichen, a particular bend in a tree, etc when out hiking and in the woods in general. It went from “see the forest” to “see the tree” to “see that curve, that cone, that bud, that flake of bark.”

I love that people who might otherwise be diametrically opposed to one another, find a common ground.

You might say that what opposes unites, and the finest attunement stems from things bearing in opposite directions, and all things come about by strife.

I love the fact that bonsai people will copy pictures like the one posted by NaoTK, then zoom in and ask questions about a branch on the fourth tree from the upper left corner, about a third of the way up from the soil.

I love the generosity of most bonsai folks. Can't tell you how many plants I've been gifted over the years by club members.
I appreciate the willingness to document over a period of years, even decades, then sharing that knowledge with others.
This 👆. This is what makes our little community so great.

There's a handful of more experienced in the members in the club who always take the time to find me and ask about my collection. One of them will ask pretty tough questions about particular trees, so I've learned I need to prepare questions and make sure I'm checking in on things on those trees as well as my whole collection.

I didn't ask these folks to do this, but I think they see that I'm new, young, and interested in learning, so they make a point to help.
