Stand build off

I think it's a great idea @Pitoon I'm a grease monkey and not a woodsmith:) Mine would be out of polished aluminum or stainless steel. LOL
As a side note, I considered putting some trees in our annual club show last month but, seems a stand is as important as the tree/pot in a display and I have none. Maybe I need to become a woodsmith.

Again I think it's a great idea for a challenge/contest and will be following.
No rules for materials used......just have a stand ready in 6 months!

@Marlborough Handcraft made some really nice metal pots.....maybe he would consider make a metal stand too?

Y'all are inspirational. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work! At my skill level, I find that a good coat of black paint hides much. Or I satisfy myself with a "rustic" look.
There's nothing wrong with a black stand.....make something to show us.

Due to funding restraints as I was told they did not have anyone to supervise the woodshop.
That sucks... when I was there the person running it was a retired Navy Chief, I think most of the time he volunteered as he was always building something or teaching somebody. They should have a NAF appointed person there, they had a decent material selection for sale, I bought quite a bit of mahogany from them.

The shop was packed with good machines that looked like they had no usage when I asked to "just" have a look in the woodshop.

I live 50 miles away from Meade so it wouldn't really be practical for me to use anyways. Plus is cooler to say.........Hey, I made this on my driveway!, lol 😁

Reminded me of my pot making skills.

I agree, the last 2 where made in my backyard, and almost all my wood/metal working was done in my garage or driveway. There is a guy from that forum, user name Drak that is from MD as well. He makes super nice guitars, all in his driveway.

With the right tools and enough time, location really isn't the issue. You plan on making a stand? I need to figure out a design.

undecided... I don't have that much material left. A few book-matched tops, if I can find them and they haven't warped by been in storage boxes for over a year now. I'll have to research a few of my old websites to see what materials I can get for cheap. There were a few lumberyard close to Ft Meade that I use to go grab the left over stock from when they mill. I don't have anything like that close anymore.

This place is in AZ..... https://www.woodworkerssource.com/

Home Depot sells maple (soft?), red oak, poplar by the linear foot..........cherry pick, cut and pay for what you need.

I promise to attempt to make one! Life has been very busy, hence my lack of contributing around here, but i'll try to whip something up. This is a cool idea. Admittedly, I didn't read the whole thread, are we doing a size constraint?

No rules, just build a stand to present in 6 months from now.

I'm always busy myself, that's why I suggested the 6 month window. Should be more than enough time to make at least one stand.

I am in. This weekend I will go to the old house and salvage some lumber for the stand. Most likely I will pry up some floor boards, stairway treads, window sill etc...
