Some New Pots From the Weekend

Went up to Taipei for our annual zoo visit and as always stopped by the famous flower market.
Bought a few new pots. I think I paid US$60-70 for everything that day including lime sulphur, neem oil and something small.
Wanted a little hand painted Japanese pot. It was rectangular, white and measured about 5-6cm x 3-4 cm. It was US$ 23. I went to get the lime sulphur, came back to the stand and asked for it. Someone had just bought it. I nearly died. Got to act quickly in these markets.

I needed a shohin cascade pot with some literal weight and found this for almost nothing


My Chinese perfume bush needs a slightly smaller pot on the upcoming repot. Found this. Not sure it fits the style but will try it anyway. For US$7 you can't go wrong.


This pot was US$2.20. Screamed value. Why not.

Beautiful work, congrats man!! Are those all the same material/mix? I've always been in love with the style of your 2nd one (the smooth brown rectangular piece, always thought those types were 'stoneware' not ceramic!)

Can I ask what your setup for making these is, like what's the main equipment (kiln/etc) you're using to make these? Again great job those came out awesome!!

I think he bought them at a flower market in Taipei...

Also FWIW, stoneware IS a ceramic. "Ceramic" describes all manner of vitrified (fired) clay, from earthenware, stoneware to porcelain.

I bought these at a weekend flower market. I would not be able to make this. But I believe the two first are a mixture of three different clays. After a year or two outside, with or without tree in it, they lose that shine of a new pot and get a really nice patina that clients of this guy love.

Yesterday I found a smashing little pot. Instead of buying another 1 or 2, I decided to get a small display stand.
I'll have to measure the pot but it's about 4.5cm across.
