Shohin Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

@ABCarve , how is this tree doing this summer? I need a lavender fix!
It’s doing just okay! I lost a trunk segment over winter. Their trunks are comprised of five independent segments similar to rosemary. I pulled it off without much trouble, not damaging the rest of the plant. It flowers around the 4th of July and is done now. Forgot to take a photo. It will try to put out another set of flowers however I’ll cut them off. It looks pretty ratty this time of year.

So the 4th of July came early this as did most other flowers. Lavender trunks grows in segment. This one had 5 of which one broke off last year. The remaining segments had all separated and which forms the singular trunk. They were all flopping about and would have easily broken off as well. My solution was to epoxy them back together, putting a blob of goo between them all and using a zip tie to clamp it while the glue set up. No worse for wear it worked quite well.

First real repot w/root reduction. Branching was becoming pretty leggy so it got 50% reduction. Not sure what’s going to happen……stay tuned.

Gonna ask everyones question, how did it respond to this pruning, from my understanding lavender does not bud back easy and well on old wood

It did bud back fairly well but everything was in the wrong places. Compost now. My mother had one for 30 years and it was cut back to the ground every spring. It had a 4” trunk but didn’t look anything like a bonsai.
