Sawdust as organic component of substrate?

A blast from the past!

No I never did try the saw dust. I've mostly used fir bark over the last few years. Honestly I'm not sure quite what is in most of my mixes as they have been re used and mixed up over time.

I don't have much experience with air layers but I would probably stick with sphagnum unless you have a reason to change.

Cool idea though. I think I might give it a try were I in your situation.

I will certainly try it next year. The reason is that the sphagnum moss is too expensive and sawdust is free. Nothing to lose.
