Satsuki azalea out of my depth

If a branch is entirely red, it will stay red. With most cultivars and without extremely rare events.
Which means that if you turn an all-red branch into your apex, you will have all-red. But if you turn a white branch into your apex, you can get red flowers or even branches in your white apex.
This could be some sport of Kozan or Nikko, but I can't be sure. I would have to compare quality images to a dictionary, and then make an educated guess.

Which means that when healthy, a hard cutback is possible. And this could generate new white-flowering branches that backbud from the old wood on from the main trunk.
A hard prune is done late winter to trigger such backbudding. But in very good health and with ideal weather, many azaleas will usually backbud on old wood that is sun-exposed. When they have excess energy, they need to push growth somewhere. And you can get the famous satsuki water sprouts. Normal azaleas usually do not do this. This spontaneous back-budding usually happens mid July.
But I am not sure how much the restraints of a bonsai pot that limits root space, fertilizer, and water can suppress this.
