I like this pairing better, FWIW. The old pot was a nice pot but I think it was too small. This seems more stable and I think the color pairs well.

Do you plan keep the tree in that pot when it blooms?
It would be interesting to see how it contrasts with the flowers.

Brian, is this the same as your kinsai? I ordered one from MrMaple yesterday, it looks similar but they call it Chojuho. The only difference I see is the long stamens.

Blooms were a bust this year for some reason, so here is a shot after cleaning it up and shifting it to a new (old) container.

That's odd, I've got a curious lack of flower buds on my azaleas this year as well.

Sad. One of those plus and minus situations.

Ours are chock full of blooms, yet it’s rained so often our under cover areas are maxed out…leaning others to wilt or get blasted.

It is, however a good chance to see one reason why some azaleas like shinsen, hanamaiko and Nikko are favorites.

A guess, but maybe it got too dry when it came into the garage for a week in the winter when temps were in the single digits.
