rooting gels

My apologies if I missed something from the past.
All I'm trying to do is get the newbies/noobs on their own threads together with someone (or more) that wants to help them. The seniors don't have to be bothered then, as they have their own threads that is up to their standards.
In this case it would've been helpful if you just left this OP's thread be and keep the peace to the betterment of this forum.... :)

If you go to a posters profile page you can check all past threads they commented on or started. This guy was one that I still cringe when I see his name.

It's a good reference to see why those here for awhile react a certain way. It explains a lot...

If your not wanting the advice of our senior members...I highly suggest adding them to your ignore list. But...now that I think about it...your doing a fine job in getting your desire of that met by having by far to much rope in your hands.

In you opinion. I'll respectfully disagree with you, and based on the responses that followed my initial input in this thread, most of the others would agree with me as well. The op is/was(?) lazy and inconsiderate to say the least, and was treated appropriately.

Original poster came on the forum with lots of bluster and attitude, and was treated accordingly. He exhibited the same behavior on some of the facebook groups and I believe he was booted from them pretty quickly.

"I have went . . . " ?

Simple question
One for you Fred?
Why don't you just not post trying to change people.
All of the worry about how new people are treated and not worrying about yourself.
You're coming off like you want to be the forum police and trying to make others follow some kind of stansard.
I believe my first post was about a Seiju elm I had. I was told I should air layer it. If I hadn't already known that procedure I would have searched it. On google. Plenty of different techniques.
If I came on here and asked about keeping a juniper inside and got told it needed to be outside,it would go outside. Not why not? Or the guy that sold it to me said to. People come here to look for experienced advice and they get it. They may also get some smart aleck answers but so what? If a person needs to be hand fed information and not do a little legwork maybe they shouldn't be trying to do bonsai.

To me its not about this guy or any other...
Ignoring them to the betterment of this forum should be the main focus...:)
Ignoring and patience doesn't take anything away from us as individuals, but adds a hell of a lot to this forum. To me its all about bettering this forum. We all have a role to play...ESPECIALLY the Masterpieces and VERY ESPECIALLY the Imperial Masterpieces...they are the ones I think that should be setting the standard....:)

Mike its basic stuff if one really think about it...The masters on their threads and the newbies on theirs....everybody wins....Especially this forum. Think it cant be done...look at the regulated forums where a rude person is banned for a while...;) Quickly the attitude changes !!!

You're spitting into the wind. Many have come before you and made similar comments. This place is what it is, an essentially un-moderated (or perhaps a better term would be self-moderated) free-for-all. Trying to change it is futile.

Or...create your own forum...run it how you see fit. To roast the one who takes time to keep this forum open to public for FREE...Expecting anything else is sort of a lot. When you think that we're all mostly adults here...and the one who created this site...most likely has a life outside the forum virtual walls.

I once was a newb...and I have learned much valuable information in the archives...but as well from members here. I happened to just revive an old thread asking questions on it if it's unclear...shows you are doing your homework...and it earns respect.

Honestly...ones need to grasp that tone is not heard when reading text. Someone may leave a comment and another reads more into it than what that particular poster meant. Then it escalates...

I personally would research all information given to me...with newbies here with a patrol attitude. May tend to lead ones into giving a twisted sort of look on actual care. Not saying all...but...some might find that fair game. Not a threat...but...a warning of sorts.

A forum with nothing but newbies...curious how long their trees would last if no other members offered up assistance when need arise. Burning ones bridges tend to have ill effects at times...just saying.

Wishing you no ill will...Have a nice night.

Decided against popcorn in favor of pistachios.

Hundreds of FREE forums out there with the moderators enjoying moderating... don't really understand this logic...?

Bet you'll be amazed how many newbies will start tending their trees instead of killing them, and because they had their own thread with a few willing senior/s to guide them. They wouldn't even be seen by those that make an effort, not to see them. It only takes an attitude change and the answers will come poring in... ;)

This place is what it is

Yep it would seem so...pity really.
Its the biggest forum with THE most potential for bonsai, yet its being used mostly for sparring and muscle flexing and all round chitty chat. Nothing wrong with the second...actually enjoy that although most goes over my head.....
Point is MOST bonsai threads here, starts off with bonsai and then ends up with something else. If all the shite is filtered it comes down to almost the exact same content as the smaller forums out there....see the lost potential...?

Anyways....Maybe the problem is me. Maybe its an American culture thing that I don't get. Maybe I'm being to peaceful and trying to be to perfect....?
Thinking about it this forum actually runs pretty smooth for a "self-moderated" forum. Thing is I've been on a un-moderated forum years ago (not bonsai) that blew up big time. Started smoothly and deteriorated over time...eventually it became a cesspit and then closed down. I'm on other forums that are moderated and thus it stays on topic and any nastiness is quickly dealt with. This place can be the greatest for all concerned...Masterpieces and noobs alike....much easier than anybody thinks really....!!!
Agree with you its not easy to change a culture... I left my home land SA because of the terrible aggressive attitude hanging in the air permanently. Sold my guns and left...arrived here where even the police don't wear guns. There is a all round vibe of general acceptance from all sides. Its something that just happens when you enter here. My attitude changed almost overnight.... from hostile to survive.... to embrace to enhance....:)
Yeah maybe I'm in the wrong place....

Anyway I'm off to where the fish haven't heard of Rapalas...gonne be a blast :D

Happy Holidays everyone and MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!! :D:D:D

You're not in the wrong place, you're just trying to sit in the wrong chair. You aren't the captain of this ship, so you'll do better when you quit trying to steer it.

As you say, it is what it is; it was before you, and will continue to be with or without you.

Merry Christmas to you as well.

Exactly...if you want less of the "sideshow" stuff, there are other forums out there. But, the trade-off is that they are much less active overall. Look at bonsai study group, days or weeks can go by without any posts. IBC is more active much but still very quite compared to here. Most of the facebook forums are less active and some of them have about as much of the sideshow stuff. What do you want...there's a forum for everyone.

Sometimes this place gets to me and I find myself getting drawn into too many battles. I just take some time off. I don't think anyone notices!

Merry Christmas...

Chris

I once was like you...trying to be a peace maker...back in the day. I came to learn early in...it's not how this ship is ran...but, to jump ship I would be the one who lost out. It has the most helpful information at ones fingertips in the archives...and one can spend days...weeks...months just viewing them. There may be other forums...but I found this one the most helpful of knowledge to gain...if I but searched. And once I grasp that aspect...I would like to think I earned the respect of those here as well. Trust me...I was "Hammy from over the Hedge" when I first joined...it's quite embarrassing actually. I just wanted to a sponge and soak up everyone's knowledge at once. But asked so many questions that I'm sure many wished they could have taped my hands with duct tape. Lol

Things I learned...trying to put a fire out...only adds fuel to the fire. Lesson learned way back...if things go south...step out of the thread...and go another way.

From what I understand...running a website is work...this site is packed full of information...thing with moderators...I have seen ones get so big in the head...that they ended up being the worst members on the forum. (Not bonsai related but another forum I was affiliated with years ago) So though some can be a good thing...it's not always the case. They too can sour things up.

Ahhh but yes sir...see it's those seniors that have helped me along. If we don't have those few...I for one...would never have had success with getting my trees through the arctic temps we seen last winter. Or a numerous of things I could go on about how they guided me...in the right direction for the better care or tending my trees. I guess I wasn't reading your thread correctly...lack of sleep most likely. But I thought you wanted a forum here with only newbies...then another one here for the older experienced bonsai folk...thus my comment was as such.

Three hours of sleep has me very tired...off with me.

Really people. I'm not trying to be a policeman or a captain...gees I cant even do bonsai properly. Please don't turn this on me.....look inwards and see responsibility and solutions towards this forum....
All i'm saying is try to live and let live here....its soooo simple. If you don't have anything positive to add to any thread or part of it...then don't...!!!
The rest will look after itself. Newbies will stick to newbies and the rest for the rest....Ignore at the right time .... contribute at the right time.....Am I really that odd and out here...REALLY ??

Now I really have to go....:D

Ultimately you really can't control how other people live. Whether it's in this forum or on the streets.
You can only control yourself and nothing more.
Interestingly enough in this hobby we can control how we shape a tree, or a pot or a stand.
We can grow many feeder roots instead of a tap root. The tree gets food and water by our hands.
Channel all that control into your trees.
Or get a dog.
Bonsai is a passionate hobby and folks need freedom to speak passionately.
You will see.
Take care

This still is the greatest place for bonsai folks to share information. I love IBC as well, but the slightest misstep can see a whole thread removed.

Here we can see pictures of Al in a thong in a thread and think nothing of it. We can also discuss how to save a dying tree in that same thread. Everyone wins. The freedom is perfect.
