Rip big dave!!!

I did know Dave when I lived in San Diego. I worked at his place occasionally, and really enjoyed his contributions to the club. I'm so sorry and miss his joy for bonsai and life. His family can take comfort that he had such a large impact on those around him.

I just found this out yesterday from Peter Macasieb.
It was shocking to hear this. I met Dave occasionally throughout the years, we always had the most pleasant conversations. Last time I saw him, was at the Riverside convention a couple of years ago, we went rock hounding in the desert, and then had a refreshing lunch in the shade.
What a great guy and friend! And a Gentle Giant...
Rest in peace, Big Dave.

Here is an obituary from the Net:

He is just 54? :(

Please let this be a reminder to take care of your health guys. I know it is easier for some to keep their weight down but I hope sad news like this help some be more motivated to strive to be healthier.

Many of you are aware of the recent passing of Big Dave Rochester, president of the San Diego bonsai club. I just wanted to pass along an email I received from his family, announcing a show and sale of his collection.

The sale will be on July 13, 11 am to 7 pm, at the Double Tree Hilton Golf Resort in San Diego, 14455 Penasquitos Dr.
San Diego, CA 29129

They will be showing his best trees and selling most of his collection of finished trees, stock, pots, accessories, as well as his pottery making equipment. There will be demo's as well, using some of Dave's stock.

Please pass this info on to anyone withing striking distance of San Diego that day. I hope Dave's family will get a great response, and his trees find the homes that they deserve.
