Real Stone Pots; is time now (or never)?

The demand curve could increase if the price was lower. Do you have any data that suggest price and/or size can impact demand?

It could be any number of variables.

Maybe it's awareness issue, maybe it's a proximity issue, or it could be a material issue, or some other challenges you need to better understand.

For myself, I lack understanding of how stone pots would mature over time in my climate of heavy snow and freeze cycles.
Chicago,
Not being argumentative, rather continuing a alternate perspective(?)
Full stone seems to be very popular, but more specific
1) bonsai comes from penjing (combination stone-tree art form)
2) it’s written many times, presenting a tree as if viewed in nature; many take that to mean stone duplicating rocky outcroppings
3) many people simply love stone (out here nearly EVERY high/end backyard has tons in it, not to mention those who enjoyed stone collections as a kid
Stone and trees just seem to be a natural fit (obviously opinion), IMG_1274.jpegwhen refinement isn’t the top objective

Chicago,
Why does the climate make stone less attractive for U?
Ur entitled as anyone else to ur opinion (possibly more). I’m missing ur logic though. If u don’t mind, it might offer some insight

Regardless, thx for taking the time to read and post😁

@pandacular posted the Nationals vendor link. Thanks @pandacular! There are a ton of clubs out in the Bay area on up into Oregon and Washington (which is a hotbed of bonsai activity too). If you can't make the Nationals in NY, you might keep an eye on the Portland Bonsai Society in particular. That club, I think, has some sales and shows that you might also sell at--it's a drive, but not a 6,000 mile round trip. Worth a call to see what they're going to be doing in the next few months.
Thx for the tip Rockm!

If I’m still doing this next year, I’d LOVE to through my name in the hat for nationals; though I’m sure the waiting list is a MILE long

Rockm, u REALLY have been generous and I’ll 4 sure check out Portland’s club to see what might scare up!😜

U.S. National Bonsai Exhibition, but ya people call it the Nationals a lot. makes it feel like a high school sport if you ask me!
thank u pandacular for responding.

Sorry I didn’t respond sooner. Hands been killing me lately and dictation stinks
isn’t wasted on me.

Oh, like get a Pantina on the stone?
Depends on a lot of factors. I try to pick out stones but already has a good pantina on them

I’m so sorry I did not respond earlier to for your kind compliment!! my hands have been killing me, and last time I looked at the thread there hasn’t been any comments. Paneacular, thx! 👍

PS…anytime anyone might see a repaired crack, pls know I use knife-grade epoxy, often penetrating low viscosity AFTER cutting out the crack…often the Apoxsee ones cured is harder than a variety of stone I work with

Thank u again Pan! Very kind!

@William N. Valavanis is literally the somebody running the show. I've never tried to contact him, but I hear he's quite responsive to email.

I checked out the vendor page for ya; it seems to be still accepting vendors.

The link at the bottom directs to Bill's email: WNV@internationalbonsai.com

God speed, you mad stone-mason, I think you will do very well. I would not make the critical mistake of artists and craftsmen everywhere and undervalue your time in calculating price, I think this will demand a high mark, and not just because of the personhours.
Oh My!!!! I had no idea. Oh my gosh thank you so much. I truly don’t know what to say and then there’s no bull snot!!! “Thank you” a million times!!!

Can’t think of anything else but to say I hope I live up to such kindness! I’ve tried posting this now for the 3rd time…hope it goes through

And then of course it posts TWO previous attempts 🤪🫣😂

On that note, it’s past my bedtime.

Thx again for the lively discussions!

100% self taught sounds haughty, but what it really means (for me) is no guidance. ANY idea how to price this stuff so it sells, but not too low?

I really haven’t a clue!!! I just know (pain aside) I like what I do, and am grateful others might also….but I’d have to give away, wld prefer to give to a bonsai non-profit for their benefit
Night

I think the concern is likely with ice cracking stones. I'm no geologist, but it seems that there's giant boulders on mountains that only ice out sometimes, so I'm not sure if it's a genuine problem.
