[QUOTEsorce, post: 289084, member: 12599"]I'm gonna do the math, but after getting middled, you could Probly afford the trip, the time off, the tools, An immigrant to dig it......

Hmmmm.

And an Immigrant to care for it for a few decades.....

I'm with Max, I'd try Andy at Golden Arrow, unless you're intent on getting a tree in the $5,000 range. Andy's always responsive and his trees aren't five grand, but still they're still the shizzle.

Also, you might want to try Dan W. at

I don't know if Randy Knight is selling outside of a small pool of buyers. His old site oregonbonsai.net is no longer operating.

You haven't indicated where you are located, but if by chance you're in or near Pennsylvania, Jim Doyle at Nature's Way has a lot of western collected trees (though I don't think he ships)...some may come from Randy Knight though I'm not sure. I know Walter Pall is involved in some way. Recently, there was also mention of someone in the Chicago area who had a bunch of western-collected trees for sale. Maybe someone else can post that name as I don't remember.

I don't mean to offend anyone.
Lest them rich folks be lurkin too.
Lol.
I got mad respect for collectors, and our artists, especially Ryan.

I am in Birmingham Alabama. I called nature way and he will not mail. When I called nature way today, I was told that Randy could mail me a tree but he didn't have his email and wouldn't give me his phone number.

Send me a PM with an email address if you're looking for anything specific and I can send you some photos. I have a few collected RMJ, couple JBP, Zelkova, and a big ilex I'd sell if I didn't have to ship.

All due respect, there is bonsai life beyond Oregon.

Golden Arrow ships trees too. I've bought a W.P./Natures Way ponderosa a while back. I also have one from Andy. Both were excellent and although the Nature's Way tree was nice, it didn't have the root system the Golden Arrow tree does. The Golden Arrow tree was a "burlap special" under $100. It's been happily growing like a weed for the last six years.

I have a question if you don't mind.
How long have you been doing bonsai?
Wanting one of these collected trees from out west says a while.

I have only been doing bonsai for a couple of years M. Fary. I am not sure what else to say about your post but I think it's stupid
Not really. Trees that are worth being collected and used as bonsai material are old, weather beaten survivors. They typically don't have the youthful vigor needed to survive the mistakes that less experienced bonsai hobbyists tend to make, they have their own set of obstacles regarding working the roots, styling, pruning, etc.,...and they tend to be quite expensive. So, actually, Mike's question wasn't stupid at all. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try to acquire one. You just need to understand it isn't like going to a landscape nursery and getting a 3 gal procumbens juniper.

How do you get stupid out of those questions?
I asked and now have answers to a lot of questions I don't have to ask.
The reason being are you capable of doing a tree like that justice? It takes the right person to work and bring one of these trees to its utmost potential.
Do you have that technology?
Judging from your reply I don't think you have what it's going to take.
