Pot worth trying to fix?

I never knew what they shouted when throwing a clay disc. Learned something today :)

Max,

if you really like the pot. Fill the cracks with an expoxy/sand [ some particle filler ] and then do a thin fibre glass mesh finish on the inside. Pot fails and the fibre glass internal holds all together until you replace the pot.

Good Day

I knew someone was going to suggest that ;-) Spending $500 for an unremarkable pot worth $50? That technique is generally used for valuable antique or notable pots. And again, this pot isn't cracked, it's split. Filling in those cavernous gaps would cost a fortune in gold, IF you can find someone who knows what they're doing

I reached out to Lakeside a few months back and they told me that they would not repair my pot for functional use as a bonsai pot afterwards. They would only guarantee it for decoration use.

What ever you do don't use bondo or fiberglass. Bondo is porous and will absorb water, swell and crack. Fiberglass won't adhere to a high fired pot...especially with constant moisture present. It too absorbs water, unless you get into applying gelcoat to seal off the raw glass. If you're planning on filling tape off one side of the crack so that you have something support your filler. Aluminum tape would work well. Fill the crack with something along the lines of marine epoxy. Don't expect the pot or repair to last more than a year or two.

This pot broke in the kiln... Is this fixable? I am getting this for free and getting a replacement.

Should I try to fill it in using epoxy?
Personally, I'd say you're wasting your time. I have 2 or 3 pots with much less damage. I filled the cracks with filler, even using webbing ….. it didn't work. I use the pots anyway but, as I said, the cracks are minor. Yours are un-repairable and will split off into 3 pieces and end up on the floor. And it'll probably happen during the ”wrong” season when re-potting isn't on your schedule. Toss the pot out and forget it.
