I'm north of you in Chico, and I wanted to give you a heads up that Maruyama is an excellent bonsai nursery in southwest Sac if you are interested in looking at some examples that are more developed. They have lots of starter trees, as well as pre-bonsai material and fully developed specimens. It's a great place to kill an hour just browsing.
