Tree is Jack Pine . Pinus Banksaina , native to North America . East of the Rocky Mountains. These trees are known for there cold hardiness . 2 needle pine . This is a named cultivar . Uncle Foggy . Named for its irregular contorted branch growth . Purchased this spring . From my specialty nursery . Story is tree is from Iseli nursery on the west coast . On the trip east the air conditioning failed in the truck . I purchased this and a JM . Both with at least all new growth dead . And a certain amount of die back . Price was right . I believe I have both nursed to health . It is showing buds for next wear . The apex leader is most certainly dead . Welcome any thoughts on what to do with it. I have a idea . Just looking for other suggestions . Don’t want to . Influence others thoughts at this time . Appreciate any thoughts

Welcome full complete photo :)
Probably jin just above most full picture and remove top left branch back to the most interior growth growing a shorter branch from that?
Thanks . I’m reluctant to involve Jin . I’m new to these trees . I also have several younger trees . There wood is listed as not very rot resistant for pine . But we can always try . My initial thought 💭 was to fairly drastically shorten the tree . But the longer I look at it the more I like . The more natural tall profile . Plus the leaves are longer on this cultivar than my others. At any rate I plan on leaving the top for tree health and at least as a sacrificial for now . My thought for the tree . Is inspired by . The lord of the rings movie . When the dwarves hobbits and Gandalf . Are forced up the pine tree . Chased by wolves . When I repot in spring I may plant it over a shallow piece of . Slate rock . With the eventual. Tree planted on a piece of slate , to mimic a cliff edge

Merry Christmas 😎😎 going to be white here . Start of the storm from home last night . And a lunch break from last minute stuff . Canadian national arboretum . Ottawa . Canada 🇨🇦

Overlooking the St Lawrence river. Behind my father in laws . New home . A long term care facility ( he is 97) . Just outside brockville Ontario . We have them in the area . For example at my cottage . Which would be 45 minutes straight north of this location . But we normally only see them with binoculars. Circling very high up .

I’m trying to lock down . Some unique forest planting ideas. I think of John Naka . Famous quote . Make your bonsai look like trees. So tree art in a natural setting . Instead of bonsai in a pot .
