This feels like one of Maria Hadjic's trees. Can't wait to see it on display
Yes it does! But I also think it recalls Walter Pall's trees.

Didn't he coin the descriptor "fairy tale bonsai"? It's one of my favorite genres of styling, and I'd say Piglet fits the definition of that genre of bonsai to a tee.Yes it does! But I also think it recalls Walter Pall's trees.

Ooooh, I love Keebler Fudge Stripes almost as much as I love Piglet!Yes he did. But not sure Dave. I think this tree may not be "weird" enough to go under the Fairy Tale descriptor?
I actually think now that a more apt name for it should be the "Keebler Elf" trident. Just need to carve out a little door and done!

I agree with the wiring of the details, you hardly could achieve good results without it.I think this thread is an excellent example of the importance of fine wiring on even the smallest branches.

That really looks great, Sergio. Trying to get an idea of size...can you give me an idea, maybe width of pot or height of tree or something? Probably in the thread somewhere but I haven't seen it.
Yeah, its called the emperor and was on the trophy 2 years ago

Marije has of course studied bonsai with WP for a long time!
Any updates?I finally caught up with this big girl. She was pruned back and wired some of the branches into position. In spring of last year I paired her up with a beautiful Taiwanese hand painted pot. I really like the pot! The blue-green hues of the pot compliment and bring out the orange tones of the bark. In working it I shifted her front by a few degrees clockwise hence the crooked pot in the photos. It will remain as is until I repot her again in the spring of 2025.
At this point I feel I have reached the general volume of the canopy. This year the focus will be in preserving the outline while continuing to develop the fine ramification. It may be show ready in another two years or so.

One of the biggest scars (roughly over 3" in diameter) located right where all the sub-trunks converge is closing nicely after it was cleaned up and filled with two-part epoxy in the spring of 2023.

Any updates?
Congrats. Best of both worlds. Tree and the cash. This tree was sold. It went to a close friend and client in NY so I will still get to work on it and see its progress. In some ways I feel it never left.
Not to be nosey,
But to sell a tree like that, you must have your eye on a lil sumn sumn… sharing is caring Sergio!
this tree is great inspiration for how a tree can work it's way from person to person each adding their own bits of development to the whole. I still love the tree and will always be happy I had a part for a few years, and you before me.Congrats. Best of both worlds. Tree and the cash.
