View of Piglet today from the back. Top was pruned back recently while letting the lower branches continue extending. A few more root grafts had taken so the tops were removed.

Piglet being piglet! Except for a couple of strong shoots that were cut off, it was left alone this year to improve proportions and branch transitions. A pic from yesterday taken from the back and a close up of a couple of root grafts that successfully took and subsequently cut off leaving short stubs. I suspect several other may have taken also. Next year I will cut the small stubs flush with the nebari as well as making another around of grafts. Long process but hopefully one day she will shine.

strange chinese elms in your country!Correction……this is not a trident.It is a siberian elm……someone was selling invasive weed species across the united states very cheaply
They grow extremely fast.

When I look at your trees it seems you're partial to one potter in particular or am I mistaken? Where do you find your pots? Each beautifully paired with the tree it holds.

Katie, most of my pots are Japanese. I tend to love their understated and refined elegance which provides a great framework for the trees without calling too much attention onto themselves. Much like a frame to a painting. The one exception is perhaps shohin, in which such pots can be a bit more loud and colorful.

Recently repotted with my good friend and trusty apprentice Sal (@Tidal Bonsai). Finally was put into a bonsai pot although not a final one. But happy to finally get it out of its box!
A good cut back, a bit of wire and shaped this time mostly by pruning. Still much more to come but happy with its fast development.

Man, I love this tree! I was sitting on the fence about adding root grafts to my own trident fatty this year... not anymore, though!

Sal has brought much needed help. He was recently promoted to president of air layering and de-wiring operations at M5 Bonsai Works! So guess who does all that work from now on!?
