Piñon pine #2

No piñon pines in this neck of the woods so I don’t have any experience with them but yours looks great IMO… and I think even better in the new container. Look forward to seeing them combined!

My Josef Rauscher pot from Bonsai Kreativ showed up today. Wowza. Quality is amazing and far better in person and it already looked good in photos. I also bought a small accent pot. Pretty dam excited.

yes, IMO, it is like beeing for real in front of a "real" good old tree : we are overcome by emotions that the photos do not convey at all. It may seem excessive but for me these stones have a soul : something is happening. I had the same feeling with Jan Culek shells I recieved. And the price is quite reasonable (imo).

Do you think it will be okay in terms of stability once the tree is in?

I def agree Clem. Lots of great subtle but important details in every nook and cranny.

The piece is def not stable, but I have a creative idea to make it stable!

Here's how im keeping the pot upright and stable. I drilled new drainage holes and used the main drainage hole as an anchor point. I attached the pot with a stainless steel bolt, a stainless steel and nylon lock nut, stainless steel washer and a neoprene washer to not crush the stone. It is attached to a 1/4 inch by 12 inch thick piece of unfinished steel plate. The unfinished steel should rust over time. I like it.

With as good as this looks though, I may actually wait one more year so I can use a much much better Piñon that I collected last year. I don't want to waste this pot on a subpar composition.

This is beautiful. I love the composition, and I'm sure your piñon will look great in it.
Speaking of piñon, your seeds are going underground this weekend. Thank you.
Good to see you around again.

Great Job!

Love the anchoring set up

Cheers

This is really coming along nicely.
So dynamic!

potted this tree in a homemade slab/pot. Maybe it works? Maybe not? I extended out underneath the foliage and planted some high desert accents. Pussy toes, hedgehog cactus etc.

Regardless, the pot I purchased for this tree is just too dam cool. Cooler than this tree is. I have another more spectacular piñon in mind.

That works great, certainly alleviates the tipping concerns.

IMO, the pot is a little too large (i know you accept frank answers) for me, but it is quite good and it represents a landscape, a biotope 👍 And the tree will be happy in this stone (room to grow)

I'm curious to see the more spectacular piñon pine you have for the original stone 🤩🥳
