Old landscape Weigela

I know you mentioned that you are going with more of a "fantasy" style, but I am curious what your intent/goal with the somewhat straight trunk extension is. Do you mind explaining where your initial design is headed?

Are you talking about the tallest one? Just letting certain things extend for some thickening, will get cut back at some point.

Great Progression! I raided the garden this year for a Weigela but much smaller than yours. Do you think the leaves will reduce?

They do.

Left = another weigela in an Anderson flat, unrestricted; unpruned.

Middle = top of the one pictured.

Right = from the bottom, more ramified area of the one pictured (not the smallest I could find, about average).

I always enjoy seeing this tree. I have a bid landscape weigela, wonder what the trunk looks like🤔

There are a good amount in my neighborhood that I assume we're all planted in the 50s or 60s when the development went in.

I've gotten one other from a neighbor that was redoing their front yard. Has a big central trunk, but it's completely dead and hollow and suckers all around the edge. Still not sure what to do with it. Hell, I still haven't really figured out the species in general.

Love the bark on this, it’s going to be a great tree I think. It’s the inspiration for that spirea that I have in a box from the garden out front. Just a lump of gnarly trunk with an unruly hairdo, kind of like how this started!

I've obtained a few this spring from folks redesigning their landscaping. I'm hopeful to contribute some of my experience down the road. There's two I have in planter beds to gain vigor that seem to have a lot of potential. The bark is beautiful.

Your work here is inspiring. Very nice stuff!
