Splitting it out into it's own thread from

Seems to be doing well.

Shoot selection and cut back (also June 22nd):

So, I'm going to need to carve all those trunks and am a super novice. Should I just start with traditional v cuts?

Maybe I can drag the resident carving enthusiast @BobbyLane in here!

Edit: I did also buy a nibbler recently, so I have that on hand as well.

Starting to get some ramification and smaller leaves down low. Let the top extend more to thicken the new leaders.

If you're going to wire, wire early. Once there is bark, it slips very easily.

We'll see what it looks like when the leaves drop, and do some more selective pruning.

Just starting to hint at purplish fall colors.

Very impressive. I have one in my landscape but I like it there.

This one had to come out for a fence. We were torn about taking it (and some lilacs) out, but it actually ended up being on our neighbor's property - and they paid for the fence.

I guess I saved them a few dollars by digging it out myself ;)

I got another from a different neighbor that redid their landscape, both will have to be a more "fantasy style":

Awesome thread! Not sure how I missed not seeing this one.

Ha, thanks! You saw the initial dig/pot post on my "Threadless thread," but probably didn't see that I split it out.

First repot of the year, and here we go!

Harder to get out than I expected...

PXL_20230412_150659959.jpg

Rake rake rake...

PXL_20230412_151846738.jpg

Flattening the bottom (I did a lot more after this but forgot to take a picture)...

Osculating saw did most of the work, thanks for the reminder they are useful for bonsai @Cadillactaste!

I made a mess...

PXL_20230412_162559451.jpg

Shoehorned into an @ABCarve pot! Pot is about 15" wide as a size reference.

Hopefully that slows it down (without killing it), and I can get some shorter internodes.

Definitely does wonders. Started with a hand pruning saw, then thought "what the hell am I doing"!
That's what I did with the ginkgo... I was like...oh heck no! And raided my husband's work truck. Once he found out it was so useful...he got me one for my own use.

Looking very good. Wonderful character in this tree. This tree is going to be a stunner in flower.

Will do.

The pot is the "wonky" one I bought from you a couple years ago, can't really tell with the size of the tree though.

A couple places need some more carving, but I think I'll let the stuff I already did rot naturally for awhile.
