Nigel saunders bonsai zone [unpopular opinion]

His hair is a ploy to make us think he's a normal guy? When was the last time you walked down the street and saw a guy with his hair? He looks like Albert Einstein.

Perhaps he's just not a bonsai master, no need to necessarily reach to "fake".

I like this comment because you got your point across without disregarding mine. And you had humor too. Its obviously not that serious i could just watch another persons videos. Thank you for this comment

He puts young plants in tiny pots so they never grow much.
When he does "fieldgrow" its a low effort disaster

This is what my original post should have said. His trees are stuck in time as his methods. He has a sexy apple tree with age and character and its neglected. He has plants in tge 20year range that have never flowered or fruited in 20years?? Are they even real trees??

If only humans had a thing called community and society where people come together to share ideas and opinions and try relate to each other. Especially total strangers

Also you didnt mention that the apple tree almost died from a fungal atack, thats why he let the few surviving branches grow and gain strength its just unfair say that. Here a Ficus that he planted from seed almost 30 years ago, you can say what you want to me its a beautiful tree

(((Shrugs))) I don't do YouTube other than to listen to music, and that just started recently as I learned I can chose the bands I wish to hear. Than listening to the music channel on the television. I have a short attention span for lectures of any kind. Give me a book...So, yeah...I don't feed that aspect of the YouTube world. I'm all about finding peace inside my circle. Things that bring strife or contention into my world. I choose to remove myself from it. I control what I want...to find the peace that I need...to find positive in the world around me. My world...has been turned upside-down over the past year...so, yeah...I control what comes into it. Because...I wasn't liking the me I had seen I was becoming. I'm finding myself again...It's a great feeling.

See...I just opened the link. I did not open any to watch. But...you are losing me. I wish you the best...but...I don't do negativity. It's a choice...just like choosing to avoid YouTuber's you don't like. Something to chew over... I bid you good day. I am going to slip over...and put you on ignore now. Nothing personal...just, Well...I don't do negativity...and for a new comer...I've seen a lot from your direction which was eye opening. "Free Will" it's an amazing thing... Have a good day!

I reckon we're just witnessing what is an inevitable decline, just as we did with TV programming. Except without all the writers and producers, it happens more rapidly.

But hes a fake. He may even be doing his hair like that just to get views and create the perception that he is an average joe. Lately his videos are just clickbait, long for no reason, not bonsai related. He does buidling projects and works on his greenhouse and little models for his plants but he actually never takes care if the plants.

I saw a video where he recently pruned an apple tree that was long overdue. It was too overgrown and he didnt eveb style it. Just cut it back. For the 10th time. He doesn't design or do bonsai he just cuts the trees and talks a big talk about the future of the tree, which will obviously never come. Its funny to see how clever he thinks he is. Today he updated a video on cedar clumps. He didnt even do anything to the tree. He did though show us a pine and a group of maples which were so pot bound he had no choice but to deal with it. He clearly doesnt care about those trees anymore and i feel bad for the trees.

Mostly i feel bad for myself for thinking he was not part of the youtube system that only cares about making videos to play us those ads. I have no doubt in my mind that within the next month nigel will upload a non bonsai related video. I unsubscribed a long time ago and i click through his videos. Its such a shame. A senseless waste for a man to have such a large following and be wasting peoples time instead of using his platform to show us some cool trees.

idk I dont like to judge, but it seems that Nigel takes a different approach to bonsai than what the 'mainstream' is. I'm not sure what you mean by 'not taking care of his plants' since he posts about that often. He's not posting many tree care videos now because he lives in Canada and its winter. Not much else to do. Nigel likes constructing miniature landscapes and trying to create 'natural' looking trees via pruning. Shaping via pruning isn't the fastest method to get a super duper fancy tree, but there's really nothing wrong with doing it. Not everyone takes bonsai as seriously or as conforming as some of us. He just likes small potted trees. If you dont like his approach to bonsai just dont watch his videos. Not everyone who's doing something the 'wrong' way needs to be corrected

There are some people who don't like him as much, though I don't think that anyone would suggest that he doesn't have the experience. Rather they don't like his style, or personality, or the way he presents concepts - which is exactly why I like him!

Nigel has a lot of followers because he is very approachable. I think sometimes people just enjoy hanging out on YouTube and watching an approachable person go about their lives - doing random stuff. It gives them a break from everyday stress and drama. After all, no one is forcing you to watch his videos :)

Ryan Neil is bonsai for nerdy and technical people. I have an interested in the biology of bonsai to better understand why I do things. I also appreciate the high production value of his content. I think he's one of the strongest influences in bonsai education right now and I hope his success continues. I'm lucky to be in my early 20s and have access to such high quality knowledge via the internet when about 20-30 years ago the only way to get this kind of info would be to attend dozens of demonstrations and lectures (not to mention I'd need to record them too). In 20+ years I predict Bonsai Mirai's effect on american bonsai will be considerably more tangible in terms of species selection, styling, and disbursement of quality information. I dont disagree with the feedback that his content can be overwhelming at times but its a recorded lecture. After two semesters of virtual learning, I find recorded lectures to be an amazing resource, even if it's information dense and in a long format

This is what im talking about. Why is everyone here so hoity and high and mighty. I cant have an opinion. I cant dislike this or that. Its the most peculiar thing ive ever experienced in my life.
