Looking for some guidance.

Mame possible still possible or am I looking at a Shohin size tree.

What would you do with this?
Chop to next node or chop to first branch?

I personally would cut it an inch or two above the first branch because of die back. Then in a year I would reevaluate it.

Especially if your wanting a mame size as internodes appear longer after that first branch. Would assume this will produce buds below to give more options. But I’m learning as I go So interested to see what others think as well

I was not familiar with this cultivar but Evergreen garden eorks says suitable for small to medium size Bonsai. I think that means the leaves might be too big for mame. That first node seems maybe an inch above the base. That is going to be the lowest branch level you will be able to achieve without grafting a branch lower. You can cut back to that and try to make this as small as possible (again leave a stub). Personally go for a larger tree so as to not have to fight the foliage as much.
