I didn’t imagine the size of the piles of dirt! The wetlands bog filter is much larger than I had anticipated. I didn’t know he was going to put in two separate waterfalls! But, it’s gonna be cool! That is a huge project, did you imagine the scale of it actually before it started? Interesting to see it come off the paper and onto the actual land.
If you really are still debating what fish to keep, have a look at golden orfe. They are insect feeders, jump in the air to get them. Fast swimmers living near the surface of the water. Much better than Koi / Goldfish in my opinion. And they do not ruin your vegetation.I’m not planning on putting in Show quality fish. What I want is an attractive pond. Pretty fish is a bonus. Koi, gold fish, I really don’t care. I plan on keeping it under stocked.
If you decide to keep koi. Look into a design that have a jumping rock in a location that's safe so they don't jump out of the pond. I'm pretty sure you know this already. I'm just chiming in while looking at this gorgeous project. If you really are still debating what fish to keep, have a look at golden orfe. They are insect feeders, jump in the air to get them. Koi use smooth rock surface to get rid of parasites hanging on them. They speed toward the rock and smack their bodies against the rock to shake off the pesky parasites. When the angle of the rock is right they are launched into the air. The Japanese usually place a round and very smooth rock at a depth about 2 to 3 inches below the surface of the koi pond to entice them to make spectacular jumps. Koi normally do not just jump for no reason.I’m sorry but any dumb ass fish that jumps out of the water on to dry land deserves to die!
I’m thinking more by the end of the weekend. They better get busy if they’re going to be done by tomorrow.![]()
