A week.

That is a huge project, did you imagine the scale of it actually before it started? Interesting to see it come off the paper and onto the actual land.
I didn’t imagine the size of the piles of dirt! The wetlands bog filter is much larger than I had anticipated. I didn’t know he was going to put in two separate waterfalls! But, it’s gonna be cool!

I love this thread. I have dreamed of building something like his for years. Just need a yard and enough money to fill one of your ponds haha. Thanks for sharing.

I’m not planning on putting in Show quality fish. What I want is an attractive pond. Pretty fish is a bonus. Koi, gold fish, I really don’t care. I plan on keeping it under stocked.
If you really are still debating what fish to keep, have a look at golden orfe. They are insect feeders, jump in the air to get them. Fast swimmers living near the surface of the water. Much better than Koi / Goldfish in my opinion. And they do not ruin your vegetation.

If you decide to keep koi. Look into a design that have a jumping rock in a location that's safe so they don't jump out of the pond. I'm pretty sure you know this already. I'm just chiming in while looking at this gorgeous project.

I’m sorry but any dumb ass fish that jumps out of the water on to dry land deserves to die!

LOL unless it's a $3k fish, in which case whose the dumb one?

I know 2 people who have lost top-quality arowana this way. I lost my humble fire eel this way. it's not fun and you always feel like its your fault, not the fish's. kinda like when your dog jumps out the car window on the highway, or your todler falls down the stairs

Sounds like a good time to find someone running some "Koi Intensives"!!! Just trying to have a little pond in the yard folks!!;):D:D:D:D:D

Besides, once @Dav4, Groot and the rest of the Redneck Study Group show up, they'll all have fishing poles while Groot side-swipes all the snacks!!!o_O🤔😅😅😅

Grows some water-lilies in there and call it....🧐

I’m not planning on buying $3000 fish.

Maybe a small fish grows up to be a $3k fish!

I would like to train them to eat out of my hand.

The redneck study group wouldn’t bother with fishing rods, they’d show up with M-80’s!

Koi use smooth rock surface to get rid of parasites hanging on them. They speed toward the rock and smack their bodies against the rock to shake off the pesky parasites. When the angle of the rock is right they are launched into the air. The Japanese usually place a round and very smooth rock at a depth about 2 to 3 inches below the surface of the koi pond to entice them to make spectacular jumps. Koi normally do not just jump for no reason.
