Thanks for the info Leo. As for the BC, would you cut it flat to the red line?I'm digging the bald cypress, nice, either to grow out or to make a small shohin or next size up tree. I'd cut the base flat, get rid of the lower part below the roots. Nice, it has some taper.
The JBP is good enough starter material, needs 4 to 10 years in nursery pot or grow out flat or grow box. You'll need to work it twice a year or more during that time, but if you do, it can become respectable. And the price was good.

No cutting yet. I just ended up potting it up last night. I'll wait to the spring to mess with it.I hope you didn't Cut it yet!

Just put a wire in that highest wide spot to layer up to later.

did you bare root these right now? It's not the time to repot BC plus we have a lot of freezing weather coming up. Though they are dormant now it's still a little too early to be doing that. It may be ok as BC are tough but I would have waited, don't let it dry out as that's a death sentence.
