My non traditional bonsai

But they weren't bred to be that way. All the same dogs were made from wolves so the instinct to protect the pack is in there. I imagine if someone was threatening you or your family it could come out. I wouldn't want one to come unglued on me.
I also read that Chinook are somewhat rare dogs and that they are long lived as far as large dogs go.
True. 13-15 yrs.

They are actually in the Guinness world records as one of the rarest breeds in the world.
The few breeders out there work very hard to boost the numbers and get them back in the world.

In 1985 there were only 125! Close to extinction.
I don't even want or need to know how much a puppy costs.
Rupert was kind of pricey and they're popular dogs.

Actually they go for $1000.
Not bad really, in the world of purebreds. The breeders say they sell them cheap to help grow the numbers.

Chet keeps the critters out of my yard. He loves people but deer, raccoons, and squirrels better watch out!

My best bud has a Pyrenees! Rock is his name. Big old lovey guy.

That's less than a Rupert! Good for them!

13 yrs old and his hips are giving way. Took him with on a weekend away, the house we stayed was built on poles. Had to carry him up and down the steps how many times every day...yeah he hasn't got very long to go now....:(

Me and Buddy both have a buncha' grey whiskas'.......I don't have dogs anymore, because this part really sucks.
I don't like to project human behaviors onto a pet, but, I don't believe the connection between dog and master is trumped by any other.
I'm also not a dog, so I can't speak to what the dog thinks of the whole thing. How they react to you is the only indicator.

Now, one of my mother's husbands had a Doberman that was a different story completely.....:mad:

Extending my best wishes to you and Buddy.

Very much appreciated Lance ;)
Like JWI said...its part of life. I can fully understand why you don't want a dog anymore. Besides the friendship sometimes built, cant just be replaced by getting another dog....but then again time is a wonderful thing, if used correctly...:)

Yup, Bjorn died two years ago. Made 11+ hips and heart. K buried her under his Bonsai stand that holds his cherished Tamarind,
when he thinks no one notices he still talks to her.
For all her size and she was heavy, she was gentle and playful, obedient as well.

Her companion was Ursa, a dog that was to be thrown away. Ursi, passed away last year, age 12+, used to jump the back gate and
eat cat mess. Gave her cancer. She is buried next to Bjorn. Two bears.
Ursa was an unusual blend, almost as tall as Bjorn, but very light of build and graceful, long furl.

K had Nick go to Animals Alive, a place where they save strays, throwaways and find them homes.
Nick was advised to select the two that came to him. It was feeding time and two pups left their food to play with him.
Now K has, Mischief, a new Ursa, later joined by a pup thrown from a car on the highway, Cane'.
Trouble is no one grew, so along with Patch [ another dumped pup ] the yard is filled with hobbits.
It's a gas.
[ sent with K's permission ]

And boy did I have trouble writing the first part.
Anthony the sap.

A year in. What a dog! He went through a lot his first year.
Broken rear leg at 6 weeks old from being jumped on by my daughters boxer.
Severed Achilles tendon in that same leg at 4 months from getting it caught on something,we're not sure what. Then the vet did a miracle late night surgery to save it. He did such a good job you can't hardly tell.
At 10 months old one of the neighbors pit bulls got out and tried to attack him. Or me. Thank God Rupert saw him coming. It didn't get the chance to get either of us. Rupert ended up chasing it back to its house. Nobody got hurt thankfully.
He likes me to hold him. He's my baby.

Lovely. Looks like he's got your personality to. He don't seem to hold any grudges after she broke his leg? :p

No. He loves her Fred. He let bygones be bygones.
It probably helps that he is almost twice as fast and can run all day.
A couple months after the cast for the broken bone came off he somehow severed the Achilles tendon completely on the latch on his crate. Same leg.It was bad. Real bad.
The vet did a miraculous late night surgery to put him back together. You can't hardly tell he has injured that leg at all. He can clear a 6 foot tall fence. He jumps in and out of the window of my truck.
First cast. Broken leg.20150619_153220.jpg Second cast. Severed tendon.20150905_232353.jpg The leg that took all the damage is the rear one in this picture.
I also submitted this picture to a company that makes German Shepherd calendars.IMG_20160612_184113.jpg
