I have a 27 inch tall Mulberry whip from seedling about 2 years ago. It is growing and taking to wire nicely and will more then likely land up as a contorted/weeping oddity in the next 3 years. I have been growing it in Dry Stall(pumice). I have kept the nebari buried and spread them from time to time and they are forming nicely. I want to expose them this season and do not see a problem. What I do see though is BRIGHT ORANGE Nebari:p I understand it is normal but after exposure will they grey out or do I need to use something like lime sulfur to tone them down a bit

They will bark up and turn gray over time. The bright yellow roots of mulberry are surprising, aren't they?

Mine can either be bright yellow or startling orange. Both turn, although slowly to a normal bark color. Takes more than one season out in the air. Would love to see yours!

I will try to get a photo when the rains subside here a bit and I uncover some. These are a startling orange last I looked, hoping there is more :p Also glad to hear they darken, thanks!

He hehe! That sounds so funny! I am going to look at mine also just to have a good laugh. It is in the ground.

There was a small break in the rain and I uncovered some of the orange I mentioned. There are 3 to 4 more roots in there that I will bring to the surface when the weather allows.

This Whip is 27 inches from the base to the top bend. Started out planning a literati with the "look" of a Praying Mantis on its back legs but will more then likely go contorted.

I planted mine last year in the ground...it has grown from a pencil thickness to 5-6cm up to now...The leaves on mine are like 20 cm (8") long...so I decided to make it like 20cm diameter trunk...Mulberry reduces leaves very well, but I dont have many big bonsai so I want a big one...Aug. I shall dig it out sort out the nebari and replant in the ground.
Interesting how yours has the trunk even orange...

The roots are VERY orange and it "fades" up the trunk after two inches or so. I had a hard time getting the picture as it was storming here. It is just odd to me and why I posted it ;)
