I've seen multiple threads on what everyone's favorite species to work with is and I thought it would be interesting to hear your least favorites and why?
I won't own anything that needs to come inside for the winter...and I especially hate Fukein Tea.
You just need to know how to develop figs...they make fantastic bonsai.OK. I'm glad the obvious has been stated that we don't like trees that die or don't keep working on species we don't like to work on.....
I've always had problems trying to get a ficus to actually look like a real tree unless it has a wide banyan style trunk.
I think it is one of the favorite species in Malaysia and around...but they use big interesting trunks...not the tiny s curved ones. What is it about Fukein's that you guys don't like? I've never had one.
Or it could be that I didn't hold my face just right when I watered.
... I can't stop putting my dirty hands off them.
Yep. I heard apprentices in Japan aren't allowed to touch a hose till after 2 years have passed. It takes that long to learn to hold your face just right and to learn to sneak up on Serissas and Fukien Tea bonsai. I swear the serissa I had would drop a leaf if it heard me coming down the hall.Hahaha, it's a skill that takes years to master I hear.
I don't know if I'm qualified to hate any trees yet as I am just over a year into the hobby, but i suppose I hate Hinokis because my two dwarves and larger one were pretty dead by the time spring arrived. I love seeing them as bonsai, though I hear they are a challenging tree. May try the species again in another decade.
