Kanorin's chunks of fired mud

Try putting a plastic bag over it for a few days before leaving it to dry in the open air. This has helped me a lot.
I use a bag for a few days, opening it for an hour a day. Then I do what Sorce recommended, I put a single sheet of newspaper over the pot and this seems to slow down drying and even it out. All clays are different though!

I’ll have to try that newspaper trick!

Dang Kanorin...

I missed this!

Almost everything I was going to help you out with, other kind and wise potters have chimed in about.

I love the progress!

Have you, perchance seem @sorce s YouTube Videos on slab construction.... They really changed my game at an important time.

I can link them, here, if you've not seen.

Today I finished up my biggest and most ambitious rectangle. A landscape pot around 15x7.5 inches. I started it last week and then wrapped it up to let it dry evenly and slowly.

Good job! Now your getting it!

Looks like your seams are looking much better, too.

Be careful with that extra clay for inner seams .. too much clay piled up (clay depending) in those corners, and your faces can possibly pull too much.

🤣

Also... If you are feeling adventurous...

You can take a rib or flat, straight piece, and pull over those edges a few times (inner and outer), at 40-60degrees..

This will define your edge (make it "crisp") and create a UNIFORM edge, systemically.

Thanks for the tip. It makes sense now that I think about it!

It's like... Micro planing the edges
...

If you don't want super crisp you can use a rounded edge...

I have a tool with both! I bet you could find something like it, at your local dollar store.

I was actually doing some edges and decided to take some pictures during a "pass"...

To help put actual imagery to my statements.

Plane em down...IMG_20230130_133117.jpg

If you haven't watched the @sorce videos... You seriously have to...there's just two!

It SAYS, "Rectangle"
.. but it's honestly like an beginner-intermediate handbuilding crash course... VERY helpful in fully rounding out my slab skills.

Thanks (and thanks @sorce ), yes I did watch them last week. Full of tips, they are. Using two boards to flip the slab...🤯
