Juniper that survived the fungus

Good to see this one recovered. The kishu shimpaku I posted about a few weeks ago bit the dust because of fungal infection. I sprayed it with fungicide after you guys told me that was the problem. Luckily it wasn't near my others, which I went ahead and sprayed. This fungus is quick and deadly.

Oh no, the little twisted trunk shimp died? I tell people about the fungus and how fast it moves. You almost have to experience it to believe it. Sorry about your tree.

Thanks, Rob. It sucks because that was my first "big" purchase and I worked on the initial styling at a workshop with Bjorn Bjorholm. I really thought it would have a good future. I was under the impression that fungus was more of a problem on dense foliage. Since it was pretty sparse from being cut back on the initial styling I didn't think there was a chance it wild get hit. Especially considering my other more dense junipers were fine. Lesson learned. From now on I am going to be preemptively spraying my junipers.

Here is an update on this tree. I repotted the tree recently and gave it a new planting angle. Last season, I started a small shari. I am hoping to reduce the silhouette and do more jin and shari work. However, any pruning or other work will still need to be put on hold until the tree regains more health.

Very nice Rob. These little things (read trees) are as frustrating as they are rewarding. It seems the key it to "push through" the frustrating parts. It seems that the rewards (case in point) are worth it!
