Resurrecting this thread. Two years ago I bought two junipers, one of which I killed due to bare rooting it in summer, but the other I let grow last summer and survive the winter. Both were of the same size and quality. I have yet to repot the survivor, and I'm sure it's root bound, as the other one was.
Wanted to share the photo of it as of today and ask a question. I know it's common to grow trees out for years, so would it be wise to slip pot this one this year and let it grow for more time? It does get regular fertilizer and seems to he growing pretty well this spring. It's in a #5 pot at the moment.
There are small little buds on it I have personally never seen on junipers, and hoped somebody could educate me on this (photos). They almost look like baby pinecones.
