That’s so. The thing I think about is even if grated the diameter of that branch is quite a bit out of scale.

Maybe wire it down again and if we can get a graft close in and regrow the branch with more taper.

Also thinking about running it down to @JEads with some other project trees for a grafting session in late winter ‘25 if he has openings then.

Yea I agree it's a bit large.
Grafting definitely could be an option.
If you are pretty newish to grafting JPB, getting help from someone who has done it successfully a lot is a great idea. I've yet to get a pine graft to take.
 
Nice work on 4 years of progress! It went from a "compost ready" project tree to something kind of nice.
I would love to help you out this next year with your grafting. I love grafting pies and have had some good successes over the years with JBP in our area.
 
In preparation for winter grafting, this tree is being given a year off to strengthen.
