Japanese Maple cuttings [From start to finish: A Guide]

Imagine having only been involved in Bonsai for *six months* and naming yourself *Bravura Bonsai* and attempting to create guides while having an outspoken distaste for teachers who’ve been doing Bonsai for 40+ years... Astounding to me the absolute disregard for the knowledge base the community of Bonsai has to be so arrogant- I for one have been so very grateful to come into Bonsai and realizing there’s a wealth of information one can never hope to achieve all of- masters will go their whole lives and not learn everything. I’m grateful that the BNut community is willing to share and give feedback at will to beginners out of their passion for the art. There’s nothing to be but humble when such people are showing such grace. It’s embarrassing to see such a lack of humility. We both have everything to learn
Im arrogant because im better than you. Show me your bonsai. Show me your hard work. You have nothing to be proud of so you have nothing to be arrogant about.

Thank you for pushing me to write.
I wasn't being a dicck by the way i was just being serious. We need the updates how am i supposed to know it works? Just believe what you say? No... but i read your article and im sorry for being a jerk when you were just trying to help

I find it so amusing the fact that new people to bonsai with no knowledge of horticulture (which we all now know that not everything that can be done to a full size tree applies to container trees) decide to join a forum, and start this nonsense postings. Seriously, like your 6 month experience trying to root Japanese maples in mud is going to trump decades of experience... do yourself a favor and research-read, research-read, research-read and research-read some more.
I dont want to. Id rather talk to someone who knows more. Your method seems like beating a dead horse

To reiterate, I live in South Africa, Johannesburg. My USDA zone is 9b. It reaches mid 30s C in summer where I live. I used a R120 (South African Rands) humidity dome from Builders Warehouse. A little plastic box with a removable clear lid and 2 little slidey vents. I misted my JM cuttings twice (sometimes 3 times) daily. I had ~80% success rate. I kept my little cutting box in the shade. I took my cuttings in spring and a second batch in early summer. I didn’t use garden mud, I used straight perlite. I used IBA rooting powder.
Thing is im trying to not spend money on things like pots and perlite and fertilizer. Rooting hormones etc. Are also out of the question. Im doing things the hard way because i have plenty of time. Also there are people who will see all the extra bits like fertilizer perlite moss shiny pots not to mention root rakes rooting hormones pesticides and get put off. Im doing something that anyone can follow along to hence my growing lots of fruit trees. Everyone has access to some citrus fruit or the likes all around the world

Not

Not to be 'that guy' but this was the original intention of the thread. To get propagation info on jm cuttings all in one place. The proper information. If you read this thread you will not find any of the information posted by the vetarans of this forum as easily as you may think. The information on the internet is generic and uses a one size fits all system that obviously doesnt work for everyone
You’re either a brilliant troll or terrible at reading a room.... these guys are doing their best to help you but owe you absolutely nothing. If you continue to post in this forum with the abrasiveness you currently are, you’ll probably begin to see fewer and fewer responses on your posts. People can and will mute you if they dont want to deal with/hear from you. If you’re really after the best information i would tone it down on defending yourself and being generally smug, which the majority of folks participating in this thread can likely agree you are constantly doing....

I’ll be honest, I doubt anyone is going to use your thread or YouTube channel to learn how to root cuttings when there are proven, reliable methods well documented already

And Nelson Mandela and Johnny Clegg and Savuka, I know, I saw them in France long before June 1991.

Read "A dry White Season" in 1979 too. at that time, we were boycotting "Outspan oranges".

Among other things, I also had my (English-learning) pupils read and study "A journey to Jo'burg".

I didn't get stuck in past days, I also read "Triomf" (in English), which shows how anyone can become part of the lumpen-proletariat, whatever their origins, colour, religion, or else :

But I didn't know that "south" was written "soutj" in Afrikaans. But it's so hard to catch the music of a foreign language, like when I was about 13, this was a hit in France, but no one could sing it, "click-languages" are so difficult. Yet, it was a kind of happy cloud we danced on.

At that time, I didn't know much about foreign languages, or politics, except that I made no difference between my friends, I saw their colours, vaguely knew about their cultural (religious) background, but didn't even realise about that, they were just my friends.

"Soutj" ?

I was just suggesting to correct the spelling : "South" is "Suid" in afrikaans, isn't it ? "Zuiden" in Dutch, nô ?

Gotwerdam, Ich kenn nicht 😄

You’re missing the point of my post, which was to say that we both are in a similar situation, yet I’m being humble and thankful to have this wealth of knowledge in front of me yet you’re being arrogant and divisive and condescending. As I said, “we both have everything to learn”. No, I do not have any Bonsai, and I’m not deluded enough to think my pre-bonsai count. But I’ve got many many plants and have grown edibles outside, along with my current few yamadori young plants and such. I’ve grown many plants from cuttings and seed. I’m not going to argue with you, and I hope that you can take from this that it’s good to stay humble and have a sense of humility when entering a new hobby or art form. There’s a deep pool here and you can’t take your way through swimming but for so long ;)

But you were being a dick. And to be honest. From what I read here. You continue to do so.

I do not make an issue out of spelling mistakes. I have dated a girl that was dyslectic and I myself do not always see my own spelling mistakes. I orefer to give people slack over those silly things. Life is full of real issues already

My threads ir channel are not to teach really just to showcase my work and document it. Thats all.

This was a fun break from the thick tension in this thread

2 WEEK UPDATE WITH PICS

The cuttings in the partial sun all started to brown at around the same time at the 1 week mark. They started turning at the edges just like what i am used to with my previous attempts. I left them there just for fun. They started creating new buds 2days ago and the buds i had previously removed are now red and swelling. That never happened before. They are also not as dry as the previous attempts and i am still leaning towards the too much heat and humidity was killing my cuttings issue. Here are the pics from the cuttings in partial sun. One of the cuttings still have green in the middle although the rest of the leaves are brown. My pics are not great sorry but you get the idea?
