Japanese Maple Air Layer Help

This is the 2nd air layer that was taken at the same time as the red maple. I haven't cut back on this one until now. I feel like top couple inches need to be cut back but Ill see how it does.

In between cold snaps I got this air layer repotted. It went from a 3gallon tall nursery pot to an Anderson flat. I cut some of the roots going straight up and straight down.
