Yamadori
Seen while out hiking with my dog. It is in a national forest in an area that has been logged within the past couple of years. I was hiking down this gully that has a seasonal stream that is still somewhat flowing and was admiring the yamadori potential of the bent and broken trees from all of the downed logs on the hillside when I realized there were 5 needle pines mixed in with the lodgepoles. While looking at this one I saw the small orange patch on the trunk and then saw some on the lower trunk, too. I took a couple of photos but did not realize how much there was on the lower trunk until reviewing the photos while writing this post.
I saved the coordinates so I can let the Forest Service know in case they want to monitor the area or remove the tree.
