How much would you pay for these white pine and black pine?

JWP not such bad trees. ALWAYS bargain as one in control. Never pay more than one has to and never be afraid or embarrassed to walk away. How is that being a jerk?
One can bargain without being insulting.

I have a question for you: You state that “JWP” can be nice trees, but that “JBP” are weeds. Why is that? What about JRP? Mugo? Scots? Ponderosa? Lodgepole? Shore? Torrey? EWP?

Give us the full Potawatomi13 lecture on pines!

Common as weeds is all you get, Jerk!

Ok, so someone who bought the two black pines (one similar and not pictured) and the white pine for $1000 is now selling the white pine for a fortune. Somewhat sketchy in my opinion but if anyone’s still interested there it is. Lol.

So, they bought three trees for $1000? And now trying to sell one for $950.

Keeping the two JBP?

If it works, they’ll get two JBP for $25 each.

Pretty clever, if they can sell the JWP.

Someone skilled with JWP could buy it, wire it this fall, repot it and clean up the nebari next spring and resell it for $2000.

That’s not clever, that’s unethical. Sorry. If they are going to keep the trees, work on them and then resell for their efforts, then sure. But to just sell right away to make a quick profit and to cheat people, that doesn’t sound right to me.

Who was cheated? If the seller didn’t think it was a fair price, they shouldn’t have sold them.

He hasn’t yet sold the JWP. Who knows if he will get that price?

Most retail goods are priced at double their wholesale price. My local bonsai shop buys trees and tools and pots and soil from his sources, and prices them at his shop for double what he paid for them.

"Tree-flipping" aside, would YOU buy at this price? Because the first part of the above quote is obviously on your "resume". :)
Probably not.

I would rather spend more and get a truly spectacular tree. And I’m not in the tree selling business.

Where I live, high end trees don’t sell for big bucks. The same tree in California would sell faster and for a higher price than here in Georgia. There is a greater demand for bonsai in California than in Georgia, even though the supply is less here.

you are joking right? you’d have a hard time in japan selling this one for anything above 50 dollar, maybe someone skilled could get it above 100 in which case he would have doubled his investment.

Why is it off base? That is my opinion. You can have yours.
True. It is an opinion. What you are saying is that capitalism is wrong. Maybe it is.
Buying and selling is not a matter of ethics unless it involves ethical issues. We all buy and sell. Some are merchants and some sell service. There is no definitive base line and thus a cry of injustice is not valid.
If you are offered an item at a price that is acceptable to parties involved, and if your intent is to make a profit from it, why should your action be considered immoral?

You have a point. But I still would feel uncomfortable trying to sell something for $950 when it was listed for $500 AND I got that for a bargain.

I agree with this logic. It just feels wrong IMO to buy something and sell the same for so much more on the same platform on the same day. I wouldn’t do it.
By the way, I’m not against capitalism nor I’m I against profit making.

There is nothing wrong with trying.

But in Japan, there are thousands of JWP bonsai. They’re rare here in the US.

I sold antiques and antiquities for several years.
Once I bought a Makonde Tree of Life carving (Mozambique) at a flea mkt for $15. Two weeks later I sold it for $300 to another antique dealer at a show. It changed hands two more times in two days and went for $1200. Had I bitched and moaned that I didn't get the $1200, it would have been a problem. As it happened several people made a profit and a man at a flea market got rid of an "ugly piece" that was taking up space in his garage. Saw this sort of thing happen dozens upon dozens of times.

$2000? You really think so? I've seen trees go for crazy prices, heck...I've sold a couple of small things on facebook and was shocked what people bid them up to. But you think someone would spend $2000 for that? I don't see it, even with a top notch wiring job.
