What is this worth? Trying to find a little more mature JM near me but any local nursery just sells young or very mature ones. This is from a small seller, not sure what is an appropriate price. Should I just buy one online?

Add your location to your profile so we can give you better tailored advice. Personally, I think this tree is in a bonsai pot way too early, and you will probably be charged more for that alone. I'd skip it and try to find some proper prebonsai material.

Do you have any online sources for material, the most reputable ones I found are brussels bonsai and wigerts but wigerts only sells tropical.

I don't really buy trees online myself, but I believe those are reputable. I've been tempted in the past to order from Evergreen Gardenworks, which is often recommended here. Others have much more experience purchasing online and should be able to recommend you some good sites. I see you added your location, so perhaps some members from IL can give you some advice of where to purchase locally.

The only sharps pygmy I ever bought was in 1997 for about $200 (I still have it and it looks great) I see that brussel's is selling one with a 3 inch trunk for almost $500),and confier kngdom has some in 5 gallon containers for $205. So this price does not look too crazy in comparison

Around here a 1 gallon JM will set you back $30 - $35. 3 gallon around $75. 5 gallon around $150. Within that context, a 3 gallon Sharp's Pygmy for $275 seems very steep. However, I've seen nurseries ask for more - and get it - for high demand cultivars. I just picked up two 1 gallon Acer p. "Geisha Gone Wild" from a nursery this weekend and they charged me $27 each (after a 10% military discount). At Mr. Maple they are selling the same tree for $45. At Conifer Kingdom they are asking $70.
