What is this worth? Trying to find a little more mature JM near me but any local nursery just sells young or very mature ones. This is from a small seller, not sure what is an appropriate price. Should I just buy one online?
Add your location to your profile so we can give you better tailored advice. Personally, I think this tree is in a bonsai pot way too early, and you will probably be charged more for that alone. I'd skip it and try to find some proper prebonsai material.

I don't really buy trees online myself, but I believe those are reputable. I've been tempted in the past to order from Evergreen Gardenworks, which is often recommended here. The only sharps pygmy I ever bought was in 1997 for about $200 (I still have it and it looks great) I see that brussel's is selling one with a 3 inch trunk for almost $500),and confier kngdom has some in 5 gallon containers for $205. So this price does not look too crazy in comparison
Around here a 1 gallon JM will set you back $30 - $35. 3 gallon around $75. 5 gallon around $150. Within that context, a 3 gallon Sharp's Pygmy for $275 seems very steep. However, I've seen nurseries ask for more - and get it - for high demand cultivars. I just picked up two 1 gallon Acer p. "Geisha Gone Wild" from a nursery this weekend and they charged me $27 each (after a 10% military discount). At Mr. Maple they are selling the same tree for $45. At Conifer Kingdom they are asking $70.
