How long for fertiliser to be absorbed by a tree in a bonsai pot ?

Really?....I just figured that it's a good way to not waste fert...
I'll do some more reading on this ....thanks Mike.

When....I used to use it....

I would water regular.

And then come back with a high concentration of the blue....

Just pouring it near the trunk, (in my baskets) so it would push out the water , and not dilute too much.

I feel it is less wasteful.

And none of the other concern.

In top open bottom drain pots, this should work even better.

Plus, you can get a little intimate time with each one....making sure that smaller bottle of high concentrate gets in good!

Sorce,

we water with a Chinese serving sauce stainless steel container, you know the little ones on the restaurant
table with the soy sauce.
Moisten in the evening and add in the morning. The idea is to wet until you get a light drip from the drainage
holes.
Takes roughly 8 buckets at 2.5 gallons. [ 1/3 strength fertiliser - 12 N .....] and about 3 hrs.
Love........................

With the aged compost [ microbes ] we can actually just grow with 5 mm silica based gravel.
The idea is that the microbes [ bacteria etc ] eat oxides, so if the concentration in water is mild, they are
happy.
When too strong, they die, by the millions. As in teaspoonfuls.

I started this topic to help Mike save money.

We do not use Bonsai pots or containers for trunk size , just refinement, unless you are a ficus and then it's
one inch deep pots and branch extensions.
So the mild fertiliser works, dense ramification and leaves of deep green in full sun - since 1980's. What wouldwe be
changing for -------- simple and efficient.

Thanks to all.
Good Day

Erratum - first line should say - we fertilise using a Chinese .................
Apologies.

* We water with a plastic 1.5 US gallon watering can, comes with a rose spout. Falls almost like gentle rain.

@Anthony

Just wondering what you do professionally? Are you in bonsai by trade? Often you say "we" not I.. sorry if I've missed it, or its common knowledge..

Hiya Folks,

does anyone know ?
Or can point me to paper to read on-line.

We did a test in Biology in school years ago. Stuck a weed - shining bush - translucent plant about 1'
tall into water with a dye. Within 24 hrs or a little less the dye was at the top of the plant.

Will fertiliser move this fast ?

Not sure how to call it up on Google, and have tried.
Any help ?
Thanks in Advance.
Good Day

Nutrients can only be taken up in solution. So...the answer is yes. How quickly the plant utilizes them is another matter.
