Help with an injured tree

Hi! New to bonsai and unfortunately someone cut my Japanese maple completely off while I was away. Should I replant to try to help it regrow or leave it in its current pot? Or is it just done? Thanks!

I suppose you could repot if that was needed this year. If so, get some better soil.

Haha… well it’s not great. Was out of town for a couple weeks, asked a neighbor’s gardener if they’d do a little yard work and water plants. I guess bc it looked sparse since it was young and dormant he decided to chop it down. I only had it for a few weeks (it’s a young tree). I should have been more specific and asked him not to touch the bonsai. Oh well, lesson learned.
